Barbell Bench Press

A lying barbell press from a flat bench. The bar starts over the chest, lowers with control, then presses back to lockout.

Conventional Deadlift

A floor-start barbell hinge. The bar is pulled from the ground to a standing lockout, then lowered under control.

Back Squat

A barbell squat with the bar on the upper back. You sit down and slightly back, then stand until the hips and knees finish together.

Pull-Up

An overhand hang on a bar. The chest is pulled up until the chin clears the bar, then lowered to a straight-arm hang.

Overhead Press

A standing barbell press from the front shoulders to lockout over mid-foot, without a hip dip.

Plank

A rigid prone brace on the elbows or hands. The body stays in one line from head to heels.

Kettlebell Swing

A ballistic two-hand hinge. The hips snap the bell forward to about chest height; the arms stay long and guide it.

Hip Thrust

A barbell bridge from the floor or a bench. The hips drive up until the torso and thighs line up.
